History
Country Boarding Kennels was founded in 1960 by my grandfather Alfredo Madrid, as Alfredo Madrid Boarding Kennels. Grandpa Fred and Grandma Charlotte Madrid owned and operated the kennels from 1960 until 1975. Grandpa Fred, with the help of relatives, built his kennel in his backyard, located on Acres Estates (now known as Jemez Road).
Country Boarding Kennels is in its third generation as a family owned and operated business. Today I proudly continue my family’s legacy of providing Santa Fe’s Finest Pet Boarding Facility.
Their only daughter, my mother, Marie, was introduced to the operations of the kennels at a very young age. She was raised watching her parents tend to the community’s growing demand for quality pet care for cats and dogs.
In 1975, my mom and dad, Marie and Patrick Lujan took over Alfredo Madrid Boarding Kennels and renamed it Country Boarding Kennels.
In 1992, business was growing and flourishing. They developed a plan to construct a state-of-the art pet boarding facility in Santa Fe. They built their new multiplex facility, complete with radiant floor heating, indoor/outdoor dog runs, indoor/outdoor cat condos, and a highly equipped grooming room, on over 2 acres on the West Frontage Road. In 1997, Marie took over operations solely, and ran her business independently until 2009."
